This August, James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad will finally arrive simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max, though despite the fact that the sequel to David Ayer’s middling 2016 film has been long in the making, we barely know anything about the plot and what it will involve, other than that the DC’s most mischievous villains will be back, of course.

The star-studded cast will include Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, whom we last saw in 2020’s Birds of Prey, and newcomers Idris Elba and John Cena, who’ll portray Bloodsport and Peacemaker, respectively. Elba originally came on board to replace Will Smith’s Deadshot, but the studio decided against the idea of retconning the established continuity. And if these names, in a project helmed by the Guardians of the Galaxy director, aren’t enough to get your geek blood pumping, then it’s also worth noting that Doctor Who‘s Peter Capaldi is also playing a role in the flick, that of the highly-intelligent supervillain, the Thinker.

As for the story itself, Warner Bros. has just revealed the official synopsis for The Suicide Squad that reveals quite a bit about the anticipated film. Take a look at it for yourself below.

“Welcome to hell — a.k.a. Bell Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out — even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin, and everyone’s favorite pyscho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese.”

Narrative-wise, Gunn’s sequel sounds like a good old Suicide Squad story, where ARGUS agent Amanda Waller tasks a group of DC supervillains with doing a seemingly impossible task under pain of death. Though what excites most fans is the fact that the MCU director has written and directed the project.

This all came to be when Marvel Studios fired Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 due to his insensitive jokes on Twitter, and while Kevin Feige has since reinstated the talented filmmaker, Warner Bros. caught this opportunity and hired one of the people who is known to have highly contributed to the success of the MCU at one of its most vital stages. So I think it’s safe to say that we’re all excited to see what the director has done with The Suicide Squad.

Based entirely on the levels of buzz and hype surrounding the upcoming release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, you’d think that the all-new version of the infamous box office bomb is virtually guaranteed to go down in the history books as one of the greatest comic book movies ever made, but it’s far from a sure thing.

Snyder certainly has a huge number of loyal fans, but his entire filmography has proved to be pretty divisive with both general audiences and critics. After all, his highest-rated feature on Rotten Tomatoes happens to be his directorial debut, with Dawn of the Dead leading the pack with a solid 75%, while all of his films since 2009’s Watchmen have been deemed Rotten on the review aggregator.

You can’t argue with his talents when it comes to visuals and worldbuilding, but the majority of his output has been somewhat lacking when it comes character development and coherent plotting. However, he always strikes up a good rapport with his actors, and Harry Lennix is the latest to lavish praise on Snyder.

In a recent interview, the man who viewers will soon see as Martian Manhunter in Justice League explained what puts the director in a class of his own when it comes to his ability to handle heightened realities and larger than life characters.

“Zack is a really good director and I think that he had some sort of a way in making his reality come to fruition by knowing how to talk to actors playing otherworldly beings and metaphysical people who were given a human form. Directing demigods, effectively. I think in any case, the way he can humanize that which is, generally speaking, hyper-real, I think makes him really in a class of his own.”

The Snyder Cut at the very least is going to be a whole lot better than Joss Whedon’s maligned theatrical version, but at four hours long, there’s every chance Justice League could see him lean into his tendencies for overindulgence, although fans will be hoping for the best having waited for what feels like forever just to see it all.

Fifteen years ago or so, Neil Marshall was being called horror’s next big thing thanks to two movies which were received very well by critics and audiences alike. And while the filmmaker has led a solid career since then, it wouldn’t be unfair to say that he’s never truly lived up to the early potential he showed.

The Descent was his calling card after earning $57 million at the box office on a budget of less than $5 million, but his debut feature was what first brought him to the attention of horror fans. Indeed, Dog Soldiers is a wildly entertaining ride full of jet black comedy that sees a group of soldiers sent on a routine training mission in a remote part of Scotland, but wind up finding themselves fighting for their lives against a pack of werewolves.

Of course, Dog Soldiers never tries to hide the fact that its budget is next to nothing and the premise is absurd, and it’s become a firm cult favorite among horror fans in recent years. Calls for a sequel have been pretty loud for a long time now, too, and in a recent interview, Marshall admitted that the chances of it happening are “semi-likely.”

“Dog Soldiers was always intended to be trilogy. So, the rights for that have been tied up for quite some time, but now there’s the possibility of a Dog Soldiers 2, finally. The initial rumblings are happening. So that’s looking semi-likely, we’ll see.”

Not a firm confirmation, then, but it’s certainly sounding promising and with the film only growing in popularity as more and more people discover the horror gem, we wouldn’t completely rule out a Dog Soldiers sequel getting off the ground at some point in the not too distant future.

Tell us, though, do you want to see a follow-up to Marshall’s cult classic? Or should it be left alone? Sound off down below with your thoughts.

Paul Bettany told us a few weeks back that the most recent episode of WandaVision would be mind-blowing, and he wasn’t too far off with that statement. After all, “We Interrupt This Program” was a hugely exciting outing, moving away from the strange goings on in WestView and offering up some backstory as to how S.W.O.R.D. ended up there, dropping a whole bunch of reveals in the process.

Presumably, things are going to get a lot weirder and much bigger in terms of scope, scale and spectacle from here on out, something that was teased in the recent mid-season trailer. Not only that, but Elizabeth Olsen has already revealed that WandaVision will feature a Marvel Cinematic Universe cameo that’s said to be comparable to Luke Skywalker’s shocking return to Star Wars in The Mandalorian‘s season 2 finale, and we now know who it’ll be that shows up.

According to Giant Freakin Robot, none other than Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange will be dropping by to ensure the jaws of MCU fans the world over hit the floor. It’s unclear when we’ll see him, but the finale seems like a good guess.

After all, we know that WandaVision will be tying into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and it’d only make sense for the Sorcerer Supreme to show up and lay some seeds for his upcoming sequel. It’s also not stated how big this cameo would be, but we can’t imagine him being involved for more than a scene or two.

In any case, it seems that WandaVision still has some big surprises up its sleeve and you’d be wise to continue tuning in every Friday when new episodes drop on Disney Plus.

As we finally near the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice Leaguemore info is leaking out about what we can expect from the much-anticipated director’s cut. Giant Freakin Robot, for example, is reporting that the movie will kill off two members of the team and according to the outlet – spoilers incoming – both Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman and Jason Momoa’s Aquaman will be dead by the end of the film.

This obviously fuels all those rumors pointing to Warner Bros. working on Justice League 2, to really let Snyder complete his planned arc for the franchise. While that’s not something that GFR can confirm at this time, what they have heard is that someone else will be promoted to Justice League status following two of their number being taken out. As the outlet states, Amber Heard will have a key role in the flick as Mera will take Arthur Curry’s place on the team.

Exactly how she’ll fit into proceedings is unclear, but it seems likely that she’d have increased screen time in the sequel if one did indeed come to pass. If you’re wondering about continuity issues here – Aquaman, where Arthur and Mera properly got to know each other, is set after JL – then you should know GFR writes that the League will be working towards sending the Flash back in time to prevent Arthur and Diana’s deaths in the follow-up.

So, JL2 would likely take place in an alternate timeline – presumably the Knightmare world – which should avoid too many major glitches to the canon occurring. The site speculates that the Flash learning how to time travel could set up his own film, though. Likewise, Mera getting a bigger role may link into her return in Aquaman 2, which might see her become queen of Atlantis.

If true, this is another indication that Warner Bros. is ready to weather the storm and stand by Amber Heard amid the backlash she’s facing from Johnny Depp supporters. That being said, we’d advise taking it with a grain of salt for now, though we’ll find out soon enough if it’s correct as Zack Snyder’s Justice League lands on HBO Max in just a few weeks’ time, on March 18th.

Newly released concept art from the final battle in Avengers: Endgame reveals an unfilmed scene where Giant-Man throws Professor Hulk and Spider-Man at Thanos’ army.

Marvel Studios had a lot riding on the concluding movie of the Infinity Saga back in 2019. The pic not only had to end 10 years’ worth of storytelling but also deliver a satisfying resolution to the MCU as a whole. And the highly acclaimed Avengers: Infinity War was a tough act to follow, in spite of the fact that the crew was essentially the same for both films. Fortunately, the Russo brothers and the rest of the gang managed to stick the landing, delivering a cinematic experience that would go on to become the highest-grossing movie of all time, dethroning James Cameron’s Avatar after nearly 10 years.

Given all the plot threads that Marvel had to weave together for this particular installment, though, the 3-hour film was also incredibly long by the MCU’s standards. Over the past year or so, however, the creatives have released many snippets from all the deleted stuff that didn’t even make it to the theatrical version. One of these involves an action sequence during the Battle of Earth, with Ant-Man in his giant form throwing Professor Hulk, who in turn is throwing Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, and you can check it out for yourself below.

While this looks absolutely epic in every definition of the word, I think we can all agree that the final battle was already overcrowded and such additions would’ve made it feel too dragged out. Hopefully Marvel will have more opportunities to showcase these heroes fighting alongside each other in future Avengers films, though. Or any other MCU project featuring a crossover for that matter.

But tell us, what deleted material do you wish had remained in Avengers: Endgame? Let us know in the comments below.

Last week’s fourth episode of WandaVision finally pulled back the curtain just a little bit, to tie the bizarre sitcom-inspired adventures into the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe mythology without giving too many major details away. Randall Park’s Jimmy Woo and Kat Dennings’ Darcy have already captured the imagination of fans who want to see the dynamic duo get their own X-Files-style spinoff, while it’s starting to look as though Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch might be the villain of the piece after all.

The actress has been in incredible form so far, and is already shaping up to be right in the thick of the small screen awards race before we’ve even gotten halfway through the series, but the mid-season trailer teased that things could be heading towards more standard superhero territory based on the glimpses of effects-driven set-pieces in the promo.

In a recent interview, the actress confirmed that WandaVision is going to feature at least one huge cameo that she’s surprised hasn’t been leaked yet, but based on the evidence it would appear as though the conversation took place before a huge cameo did in fact get leaked. After much speculation, footage showed Evan Peters reprising his role as Quicksilver from Fox’s X-Men franchise, although that doesn’t make it any clearer as to how he fits into the narrative.

After all, if Wanda is capable of manipulating her reality to bring Vision back to life and create an entire fictional town for them to live in, then surely she’d be able to conjure a version of her brother that looked a whole lot more like Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Of course, trying to predict what’s going to happen next in WandaVision is impossible, but we should be getting some more answers and no doubt a whole lot more questions this Friday.

On Monday musician and actor Marilyn Manson was hit by disturbing allegations of abuse levelled by his former fiancee Evan Rachel Wood. In an Instagram post, Wood said that Manson was abusive and that he’d “brainwashed and manipulated” her. She concluded by saying that she’s “done living in fear of retaliation, slander or blackmail”.

Several of Manson’s prior partners backed her up, revealing that they experienced PTSD as a result of their relationship with him. Ashley Walters and Ashley Lindsay Morgan say they suffered sleep deprivation and Sarah McNeilly claims Manson threatened to “bash my face in with a baseball bat”.

Consequences have been swift. Manson has been promptly dropped by his record label Lorna Vista Recordings, who stated that they will no longer promote his current album We Are Chaos and won’t work with him on any future musical projects. Now it seems that his acting career is going up in smoke too, as his TV appearances are being pulled from the schedules. AMC’s Shudder network have confirmed that a segment of Creepshow starring him will not air:

Starz have also affirmed that Manson will not appear in an upcoming episode of American Gods, saying to Deadline:

“Due to the allegations made against Marilyn Manson, we have decided to remove his performance from the remaining episode he is in, scheduled to air later this season. Starz stands unequivocally with all victims and survivors of abuse.”

Manson has responded with the following statement:

“Obviously my art and my life have long been magnets for controversy. But these recent claims about me are horrible distortions of reality. My intimate relationships have always been entirely consensual with like-minded partners. Regardless of how – and why – others are now choosing to misrepresent the past, that is the truth.”

It remains to be seen what the long term implications of this story will be for the actor and musician, though however they pan out it doesn’t seem like Marilyn Manson is appearing again on the small screen anytime soon. Manson is no stranger to shocking the public with his theatrical stage persona, though I suspect this will have lasting damage on his career. More on this as and when we hear it.

Gina Carano has been at the center of a lot of controversy on social media over the past year, but with all the talk of a certain faction of Star Wars fans calling for her to be fired by Lucasfilm due to her divisive opinions and viewpoints, it’s easy to forget that The Mandalorian actress has a devoted fanbase of her own standing by her. This past weekend, for instance, her followers came together to get #WeLoveCaraDune trending on Twitter.

Carano herself was touched by the outpouring of support and shared a message in response to all her fans. “You all got #WeLoveCaraDune trending,” she wrote. “My heart is so blessed… love finds a way. #nevergiveup I see you.” She then expressed similar sentiments in a video attached to the tweet, in which she’s clearly warmed by all the goodwill.

Of course, those not in support of Carano hit back shortly after and got #FireGinaCarano trending instead. But the actress’ fans reclaimed the victory by replacing the trend with #StandWithGinaCarano. In other words, the ongoing social media war concerning the former MMA star isn’t over, with there being a lot of passion and strong feelings on both sides.

Carano was a well loved figure within the Star Wars saga until she started to become more outspoken on Twitter, with a poorly received joke about pronouns being the start of her problems last summer. This was followed up with backlash against her for sharing anti-mask/vaccine rhetoric amid the COVID-19 pandemic and also her posts about electoral fraud in the presidential election. Not to mention evidence that she liked tweets in support of the Capitol Hill riots.

Since this last incident, though, Gina Carano has maintained a more positive Twitter presence, mostly sharing inspirational posts, messages and harmless memes. If that continues, and if fans get #WeLoveCaraDune trending a few more times, she may be sticking around The Mandalorian for season 3, which is due to start shooting in April.

M. Night Shyamalan is currently working on his enigmatic new thriller OldThe project is shrouded in mystery, though word has it it’s based on the graphic novel Sandcastle by Pierre Oscar Levy and Frederik Peters, which tells of an idyllic beach which contains a dark secret: it makes people… old. In the book we find a group of adults and children trapped in the cove, each half-hour ageing them and bringing them closer to the reaper’s clutches.

The movie is reportedly inspired by rather than a direct adaptation of Sandcastle, but judging by the title they’re keeping the core supernatural premise (though given that this is Shymalan we’re all expecting some kind of twist). Deadline recently reported that Old will be fully unveiled with a trailer during this Sunday’s Superbowl and the director has just posted a short teaser on Twitter to hype that up:

The caption “5…” indicates that we’re beginning a countdown, so expect four more small clips from the film to land on his Twitter until this Saturday.

Everything we’ve heard makes the story sound like a great fit for Shyamalan. Right now he’s on something of a hot streak, with his last three movies (The Visit, Split and Glass) cumulatively grossing $625 million on relatively low budgets. Alongside his movie work, the filmmaker is also the executive producer of Apple TV show Servant. The second season completed filming towards the end of 2020, so expect it to return sometime this year.

Old sounds as if it’s going to be a truly scary existential horror that grapples with a process we’re all experiencing and all slightly scared of. If M. Night Shyamalan can capture the dread of parents helplessly watching their hair turn grey and skin wrinkle while their young children age into adults in front of their eyes we could be in for a seriously disturbing movie. I can’t wait to check out the full trailer on Sunday.

Old is scheduled for release on July 23, 2021.
